Amazing Eastlake Balancing Flip Top Table & Hidden Desk for sale in Concord, Ohio

$2,500

This is an extremely rare solid Cherry wood Eastlake table which converts into a hidden desk. I've done extensive research and even the experts on Eastlake furniture scratch their heads and have never seen a table like this. No one would suspect that this exceptionally beautiful table would be hiding a very fancy locked desk within it.
Under each side of the rectangle top, you'll find two spring loaded lathes. Unlatching the top, it tilts lengthwise up to a standing position. You would think the table should fall backwards, but amazingly, it is perfectly balanced in the upright position. It can stand 3 inches away from a wall and still open without touching the wall. A marvel in design! After you've tilted the table up, you'll find a compartment in the base to hold an ink bottle and a hidden key to unlock the drop down board under the table top. Using the key to unlock the drop down board, it reveals a gilded edged, felt writing surface which is on a slight slant for comfortable writing. Under the vertical top are several compartments to hold documents and papers.
Here are all the dimensions: 30" tall as a table and 46" tall when tilted up as a writing desk. 20-1/4" wide. 28-1/2" long. The writing area and shelving area in the desk are 17" X 18-1/4".
This wonderful piece of workmanship is a once in a lifetime find and is museum quality. As I understand it, the old victorian homes had large gathering rooms downstairs but the many bedrooms upstairs were quite small and this table would be a welcomed piece of furniture which could double as a locking desk to save space. Today, it's secret desk can hold important papers and valuables, hidden away where no one would possibly suspect that it opened, especially with a lamp or stack of books resting on it.
This Eastlake table is in near perfect condition for it's age. Price: $2500
